A guideline for proper Saint Bernard grooming

Daily maintenance

Handle regularly to prevent tangles from forming. For daily care, it is best to use a grooming brush, a pin brush and a wide-toothed comb for longer hair.

Moulting period
Twice a year, the dog is wooled out, this is best done in the second week of the moult when the undercoat is loose, using a universal brush and a coarse wool-out knife or rake.

Grooming

  1. Brush the dog with a universal brush, rake camb and rubber mat to remove dead hair.
  2. Comb it with a normal or wide tooth comb.
  3. Check nails, ears, eyes and teeth.
  4. Wash the dog with a suitable shampoo, make sure that all knots are out of the coat. Otherwise, these will become full of water and will be more difficult to remove.
  5. Blow out the excess water with a blaster and dry with a hair dryer.
  6. Remove messy hairs on the heels with thinning scissors.
  7. Trimming the hair on the feet, please note that the Saint Bernard must have a closed cat foot!
